EARLY 19TH CENTURY, FEDERAL PERIOD EAGLE HEAD SWORD
Item History & Price

Several years ago I bought at auction this important early 19th century eagle head sword. The blade is about 27 1/2" in length; the wood sword handle is about 5" in length. The sword overall is in very good condition. The blade has age darkened patina but otherwise is in nice shape, and the sword handle/grip has minor age imperfections but overall vey nice. The wood handle/grip has a beautiful decorativ...e pattern, and the eagle head to the guard is quite striking. Given the decorative pattern on the sword handle, I believe the handle is in its original condition with no leather covering ever intentioned. There is no scabbard with the sword.
I had planned to save this sword for one of the major antique arms shows, but given the pandemic the opportunities to set up at antique military shows have been greatly reduced.
With the successful American Revolution, the colonies broke away from England and in so doing, broke from the lion emblem of Great Britain so prevalent including adornment of British military swords. In the early decades of this fledgling country, the Federalist period, there emerged the development of an American symbol far removed from the British lion: the eagle.
30 day return guarantee as long as the sword is returned in the same condition as sent. Mailing cost includes insurance. As this is still considered an edge weapon, mailing is domestic only, not international. .
