OLD EARLY 1900 ' S S S COCA COLA BOTTLE VILLA RICA ELECTRIC LIGHT & POWER BOTTLING
Item History & Price
This bottle is from the Villa Rica Electric Light & Power Co. Bottlers Villa Rica, Georgia. I'm sure it's no coincidence that Asa Candler, ...founder of the Coca Cola brand, was also born in Villa Rica in 1851. This bottling company in Villa Rica, Georgia, near the Alabama line, bottled only 50-100 cases a week. A foot powered press would cap each bottle. Later production allowed the syrup to be put in by machine, carbonated water was added by hand, and capped with a machine.
This Villa Rica Electric Company also ran a 500 Volt D.C. generator. It was the sole power for the city at the time. The electric street lights were also powered by this direct current. The company also had an ice manufacturing plant, hauled by mule and wagon, and later by trucks.
This bottle has "Coca Cola" on one side on the shoulder. The face states, "Coca Cola Trademark Registered V.R. Electric Light & Power Co. Bottlers Villa Rica, Ga.". I do not know who made this bottle. Root Glass and Chattanooga Glass were the largest producer of early Coca Cola bottles.
The bottle is over 100 years old. It has been bottled many times, as you can see the case wear scrapes on the sides. The bottle has plenty of patina and scrapes, with internal marks and beautiful bubbles, and particularly uneven bottom, common with the primitive manufacturing process of the day. However, the top has been replaced on this bottle. It must have been broken at one time. This bottle also has a flea bite (looks like the top layer of glass is gone) on the neck, as shown.
