A scarce war date CDV photo of millionaire & Civil War Brevet Brigadier General JOHN JACOB ASTOR III, (1822-1890), grandson of the fur trader John Jacob Astor; During the Civil War he served as volunteer Aide-De-Camp to Major General George B. McClellan, Nov. 30, 1861 to July 11, 1862; B...revet Brigadier General of Volunteers in March, 1865 for his services during the Peninsular Campaign. He managed his family's vast real estate holdings in New York City, and became the wealthiest member of the Astor family in his generation.
In superb condition, with sharp corners to the mount.
