Old 1898 Spanish - American War Era 5th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Spike Helmet

This Buy it Now auction is for a U.S. Military issue Dress Uniform Spike Helmet from the Spanish-American War era of 1898. After the 1870 Franco-Prussian War, German style Spike Helmets became popular. The United States Military started using German style Spike Helmets in 1875, and stopped using them around the Turn of the Century, when the 20th Century began. My father use to own this helmet. When I was a kid, the silk ribbon use to be in much nicer condition, ...but it has since then decayed and shredded. I remember my father telling me that this was an off white/tan khaki color because it was used by the 5th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Regular Army dress uniform Spike Helmets would be a blue color, and that this helmet was the off white/tan khaki Volunteer color. The spike top has some oxidation discoloring. The front American Eagle has a "5" for the 5th Ohio Volunteer Infantry unit. There are side buttons with crossed rifles for Infantry. Crossed Rifles became an Infantry symbol in the Late 1890s, before that the Hunter's Horn was the older Infantry symbol. This vintage spike helmet does not have any sort of chin strap. It is over 120 years old, and is a genuine antique. It is a relic from another time over a century ago. It is old and in Used Condition with wear damage from use. It also has damage, because time slowly destroys things. Shipping will be in a Large size USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box. I have no idea what size the helmet is.
