Victory in the Pacific hinged on air power, as US Navy and Marine Corps fighter pilots battled Japanese Zeros in deadly dogfights over the Solomons, Leyte Gulf, and in the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot until air supremacy in the Pacific was won. Naval aviators of WW2 were issued the classic M-422A goatskin leather flight jacket, which they prized for its warmth, comfort, and rakish good looks. This US Navy USMC Marine WW2 PILOT GORDON & FERGUSON M-422A LEATHER FLIGHT JACKET ...is in fair condition, with a broken, non-functional front zipper, stitch holes in the shape of a rectangle at the lower right front and the left chest, stitch holes in the shape of a large circle also at the left chest, moderate moth tearing to the knit cuffs, moderate drying and some flaking to the upper right shoulder, some bare patching to the lower left collar, the lower right collar, and the back right collar, moderate scattered tearing to the lining, the top line of the nomenclature label at the inside neck having torn away, moderate yellowish green paint staining at the front hem, the back hem, and the upper reverse, moderate pinkish paint staining at the lower back, a bit of loose stitching to the integral waist "belt" at the lower middle back, missing the brass zipper pull, missing the lower front pocket buttons, and with moderate overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). This scarred old veteran certainly saw many flights, fights, and perhaps a few crashes. Otherwise, the jacket is in fair shape, with no other damage to the tough "pebbled" brown goatskin leather construction. Most interestingly, it boasts an orangish brown mouton collar, sports the original though non-functional "TALON" brass front zipper slide, and bears the classic "SPECIFICATION M-422A / GORDON & FERGUSON CO." US Navy nomenclature label at the inside neck. It's a Size 36, features the original "scalloped" flap lower front pockets, the left of which is larger with a stitched pen slot along the inner edge, brown knit cuffs and "two way" waistband, button throat latch, crimson rayon lining, familiar interior left hand pocket big enough to fit a .45, traditional belted bi-swing back for mobility, and brown finished metal ventilation grommets at the underarms, and carries the iconic "USN" marking in silver at the underside of the back right collar. An honest example of a very rare, original US Navy USMC Marine WW2 PILOT GORDON & FERGUSON M-422A LEATHER FLIGHT JACKET. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
