This 1930’s 16mm black and white home movie is marked on can lid with tape ”Port Arthur” and consists of shorter films spliced together, probably for easier home viewing. Scenes include a slow pan of Spanish moss hanging from trees in what looks like a swamp, oil well derricks and pump jacks with good close-ups of equipment, the Port Arthur courthouse, Eddingston Court efficiency apartments with both conch shell walls, Rose Hill Manor, a raging oil well fire with fairly regu...lar bursts of balls of flame, U.S. Navy submarine P2 (looks like Porpoise class?), sea coast and beach with people (men, women, kids) pulling in nets with some kind of round squishy looking things, more oil well derricks and refinery tanks, 2 men with a white dog in leather harness, and what appears to be a high school football game with majority Black crowd and entertainment (about 1/3 to ½ of the film is this game). There are 2 shots of the scoreboard, but all it says is Port Arthur and Visitors. You can see bits of the game itself, the stands, people in the stands (cheering and dancing at one point after what looks like a touchdown or field goal), 2 little White girls marching as majorettes, a large group of Black women in light-colored satin outfits marching on the field with a band playing behind them, and 2 couples in costumes dancing on a portable board floor at the end. Exposure/condition is good to very good; one very short bit is in color which has completely turned red, but that is mostly flowers and plants. Film is focused; my pics may appear blurred at times.Film is on a 7 inch aluminum reel (with lovely art deco design; I couldn’t figure out the brand) in an aluminum Kin-O-Dor canister, and there is about 320 feet.
