The blade and the mountings are in Near MINT condition. It is ahealthy sword and has a blade length of 27 inches (69cm). There arewell-crafted bo-hi, or grooves, downboth sides of the blade. The hada is a tight and visible ko-itame that has been expertly crafted. The sword shows a well-implementedsuguha hamon with a thick nioi guchi of dense nie. The hamon ispresent the length of the blade through the kissaki where it ends in a thick maru boshi. The blade is mumei, or unsigned. Based on the shape, workmanship, and age, the sword looks to be an early murata-to, or one of the famous experimental swords developed bythe Japanese general Murata Tsuneyoshi. The mountings are Russo-Japanese period Naval Kyu Gunto with a highquality same rayskin saya. The mountings are in Near MINT condition. The tsuka is saber-shaped and in Near MINT condition. All of thewire wraps are present around a customized rayskin core. The tsuka shows a niceand healthy patina. The tsuka backstrap also shows a family mon of sugi, or cedar, used by clans such as the Kojima. Thetsuka also includes an original black knot attached to it. The saya (scabbard)is same rayskin with gilt furniture. The saya shows a couple small dents and few areas of missing finish, retaining roughly 95-97% original finish. There is a locking mechanism and it worksperfectly. The blade is in Near MINTcondition. It shows no nicks, little to no rust, and just a few scratches alongthe blade. There are no major flaws like hagire.Given the rarity of Naval Kyu Guntos and the condition of this one, I highly recommend this piece for acollector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms andadditional items: This item is original and not a knockoff or fake.
