This is a Japanese Meiji, Taisho Naval officer`s tanto, dagger in kaigun-tanken mountings. The blade is signed "Bishu Onomichi ju Goami Sadayuki saku 備州尾道住其阿弥定行", dated "Tenmon Ni-nen Hachi-gatsu hi (a day August, 1533) 天文二年八月日", hira-zukuri shape, before muromachi period made old family blade. It came with NBTHK Hozon paper, submitted on Dec., 10th 2018. The blade is in old full polish, no ru...st, no stain and in mint condition. The temper line is wavy chusuguba with konie active temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep turn back temper at the point. Forging grain is tight koitame hada, no forging flaws. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The mountings are Meiji period ca. 1905 era made large size kaigun tanken mountings, scabbard is polished ray skin covered wood scabbard, no tear, no crack, no dent and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, brass wire wrapping is no cut also in good condition. It measures 8+9/16" cutting edge and 17" in mountings.
