Conforto was a burlesque performer from New Orleans who was hired by Jack Ruby to headline at his Carousel Club in Dallas, Texas in 1963. In addition to working for Ruby it is said that Conforto also had a romantic&nbs...p;relationship with the club owner. She was a "very aggressive performer" who regularly went too far in her stage antics. Her rowdy striptease routines were known to bring audiences to frenzied heights. Ruby worried that her antics would result in the loss of his cabaret license by the police. For this reason he was known to turn off the club lights during her performances which would only work the crowd up into a further frenzy. When Conforto heard that Ruby had shot President John F Kennedy's assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, she immediately fled Dallas fearing for her safety. Though never interviewed by the Warren Commission she was later subpoenaed in 1980 by the House Select Committee on Assassinations who were keen on interviewing her. Conforto died shortly after receiving the subpoena in a motorcycle accident. She was 44 years old. Measures 8" x 10" inches.
