This rare three page manuscript document is a deed for 27 acres of land and a house in Norwich, Connecticut. The land is owned by Isaac Abel and he is selling it to Elijah Backus for the sum of Seventy-four pounds, nine shillings and six pence.
Elijah Backus is from the prominent Backus family who were among the first settlers of Norwich, Connecticut.
This colonial manuscript deed from 1774 is signed and sealed by seven pe...ople including Isaac Abel, Uriah Waterman, Ann Waterman, Joseph Chapman, Elizabeth Chapman, John Huntington Jun. and Abigail Huntington.
The deed was recorded and signed by Benjamin Huntington on may 12, 1774.
This 246 year old deed has and extremely rare "NORWICH" watermark see last picture.Norwich was one of the first towns in New England to produce paper and their first paper mill started in 1766.
This rare important deed has a small stain at the top of the first leaf and there are several tears on the folds including a large tear on the vertical centerfold.
