The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
To all whom these Presents shall come, Greeting:...
Know ye, that in consideration of the monies paid by William Cross into the Receiver-General's office of this Commonwealth at the granting of the Warrant herein after mentioned there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto John Wells (son of Richard) and Joseph Kirkbride a certain tract of land called "Longsmall" in Londonderry Township, Bedford County beginning at a Locust post thence by land of Johnathon Boyer North thirty eight degrees and a quarter East four hundred and sixty one perches and Eight tenths to a White Oak North fifty two degrees East seventy eight perches to a Locust Post South forty six degrees East eighty one perches and seven tenths to a White Oak thence by Land of Edmond Potter North seventy three degrees and three quarters Each fifteen perches and two tenths to a Post thence by Vacant Land South twenty three degrees West eighty perches to a Locust South forty one degrees West sixty four perches and two tenths to Stones South thirty eight degrees West one hundred and forty eight perches to a Chestnut thence by the same and Land of Jacob Countryman South twenty three degrees West one hundred and eighty two perches and seven tenths to a Locust Post thence by said Countryman's Land North thirty six degrees and three quarters West twenty six perches and two tenths to a Post and thence by Land of Rebecca Phillips North eighty degrees and forty five minutes West one hundred seventy one perches and five tenths to the beginning. Containing three hundred ninety two Acres and Allowance of six per cent for Roads and C.I. Which said tract was surveyed in pursuance of a Warrant dated 19th July, 1793 granted to said William Cross Who by Deed dated 30th July 1793 Conveyed the same to Thomas Rushton Who by Deed Endorsed dated 3 September 1795 Conveyed the same to the said John Wells and Joseph Kirkbride with the appurtenances. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with the appurtenances, unto the said John Wells and Joseph Kirkbride, and their Heirs to the use of them the said John Wells and Joseph Kirkbride their Heirs and Assigns forever, as Tenants in Common, free and clear of all restrictions and reservations as to Mines, Royalties, Quit-rents, or otherwise accepting and reserving only the fifth part of all Gold and Silver Ore for the use of this Commonwealth to be delivered at the Pitt's mouth clear of all charges. In witness whereof Thomas Mifflin, Governor of said Commonwealth hath hereto set his Hand, and caused the State Seal to be hereunder affixed the Twenty-third day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety - six and of the Commonwealth the Twenty-first Attest James Trimble, Deputy Secretary.
