Authentic 1796 Washington City Canal Lottery Ticket. No date appears on this piece, but our research shows that funds for this canal through the City of Washington were raised in 1796. The canal was dug to a depth of only three feet, which severely limited the size of the loads that could be carried, and eventually resulted in financial embarrassment for the owners. There is a spindle hole at the center, some age toning and light stains, but, otherwise Very Fine.
