In the informative booklet; “The Price of Fire” available from PLPG. (Pocket Lighter Preservation Guild), it is noted as a 1949 vintage lighter. During the first half of the 20th Century, Evans was one of the more creative lighter manufacturers and they teamed up with various other well...-known companies to create fantastic décor pieces. This one of course was done with cooperation from the Phinney-Walker Company. P-W was one of the most famous and highly regarded manufacturers of vintage car clocks in the USA. They were established in New York in 1903. In early days of the “Horseless Carrige”, this company designed and manufactured mechanical automobile clocks. These clocks were exported around the world and were fitted into a wide variety of makes and models including the prestige makes such as Rolls Royce and the more common automobiles produced by Ford and General Motors. After WWII most seem to have been made in Switzerland and Germany. This great piece is marked Swiss on the bottom of the clock face. Another interesting point about this piece is that it is an ”Alarm Clock”. While Ronson also produced various Clock combination lighters, to my knowledge none of them was alarm clocks. This feature would give this piece an added function, allowing its owner to awake and light a smoke in bed (NOT ADVISED!) This lighter weighs over a pound, standing nearly 6 inches tall and makes one of the most impressive accent pieces to any home or office décor. This old piece has seen some use. There is a light scratch or a miniature crack partially across at the top of its crystal. Hard to see, non-the-less it is there – please see pictures provided. Its finish has some discoloration and is in need of a good cleaning. The clock also needs attention. It is missing one of its winders and it does not run. I am sure the internal parts are complete, but it needs to go to someone with the knowledge and ability to work on time pieces. I am a lighter collector, so I always make sure that the lighter works good and this is no exception. It has a strong and snappy action with a great spark from the new flint I inserted for your convenience. Here is your chance to add this Eye-Catching Evans Clock and Table Lighter Combination will add Class to any Table or just Look Great in your collection - Thanks for looking. 1949 Evans Table Lighter & Phinney-Walker Alarm Clock Combination
