Up for auction is a good, hollow-carved Premier Grade Drake Mallard made by the Mason decoy factory, Detroit, ca. 1915. The decoy is in mostly original paint but blacklight does show some touched-up areas including the bill, top of the head, around the neck seat and the top of the tail which has a typical chip repair. There has also been some paint added to the green on the speculums and on the sides up toward the breast. There are some minor rubs to th...e bill, the top of the head, end of the tail and lower edges of the body. Very slight separation at the seam on the left side. Those great paint brush swirls that collectors covet are still quite visible on the body and the feather loops are good and strong. Both old glass eyes are original, the left one has a tiny bit of chipping. All in all this is a good example of Mason’s highest grade output.
