1999 Epiphone Emperor II Joe Pass Archtop Guitar Vintage Sunburst W/ohc, Korea
Item History & Price
The three-piece maple neck has a slender C shaped profile carve with minimal shoulder and taper as you travel up the bound rosewood fretboard. The fretboard boasts pearloid block inlays and medium jumbo frets which are virtually unplayed. The frets have well-rounded crowns, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and ideally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and on the headstock, the "tree of life" pearl inlay is featured, as well as an inlaid Epiphone pearl logo and gold Schaller-style tuning machines which turn very smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the traditional dual Volume and Tone knob Gibson-style compliment, along with a three-way pickup selector switch. The gold hardware shows just a hint of patina while maintaining plenty of shine. Plastic parts include the original quartet of deeply ambered bonnet knobs and raised tortoise pickguard with Joe Pass signature and Epiphone "E" epsilon. The Vintage Sunburst finish highlights the grain of the spruce top and tight bookmatched flame figuring on the maple back. This curly flame figuring is particularly prominent, with dimensional ripples extending all the way to the edges of the 16" wide lower bout. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few shallow finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss and light scuffing in the pick path.
The original hardshell case is included.
