A fine and rare 1762 British sterling silver
dish cross.

Dish crosses first seen in England in the mid 18th century
Waldron (pages 132-133)....
Used to keep dishes warm using
supports that slide to and from center burner,
to accommodate varying size plates.
This 1762 dish cross or stand allows for different size plates
by use of hinged support arms (see images).
A design we have never observed.
Period engraved family crest of a falcon perched atop closed fist.
Hallmarked as shown.
This extremely rare 1762 British sterling dish cross is 6 inches lower diameterand 8 1/2 inches with supports extended
and weighs 18 1/2 standard ounces.
In fine condition.
Rich sterling patina, retains original detail.
Stands firm on table.Replaced burner, with dent.
Sells world wide.
