ANTIQUE ASIAN ROSEWOOD AND BRASS JEWELRY-TRINKET BOX EXCELLENT CONDITION!VERY HEAVY! This piece was purchased by my husband’s spinster great aunt who traveled extensively through postwar Europe during the 50s. This is one of the items she purchased and treasured. It is obviously handcrafted with dovetail drawers and very intricate etched brass plates made to cover most of the outside This chest has to be 70-100 years old and in remarkable condition for its age. She used it for decora...tive purposes only.. I have not attempted to polish the brass as it has aged with a beautiful patina appearing in various shades. It is remarkable how precisely these brass plates were cut to fit this small jewelry chest so perfectly...even the corners are wrapped and held in place with dozens of tiny brass nails. The two drawers have onset heart shaped pulls on hinges that are rare & unusual. The decorative handle on top lays flat & is attached with hinges for carrying. At some point the door came off and I did reattach the door myself using brass nails with heads the same size as original ones but cutting them to half their length. (See & enlarge photos 9’& 10). This chest is in remarkable condition as it’s estimated age to be 100 years old. I believe I’ve priced it well under its actual value, as can be seen by comparison to similar Antique Asian jewelry boxes. I am motivated to sell it to someone who appreciates antique Asian Art. Please look closely at all photos as they are an important part of this description. The knob which locks the door is fully functional, however I do not have the key. The original key is long gone and I assume it was used so that the chest could not be unlocked. It appears that a fairly simple skeleton key could be found to work this lock. The chest weighs almost 5 1/2 pounds, which is quite heavy for its size. It’s dimensions are 9”H X 6 1/2” W C 5 1/2” D. Calculated Shipping with USPS Priority Mail.(ground is less expensive, however, I would not recommend USPS ground due to time & handling risks, especially with an antique!)I carefully wrap and package all items as I would want it done for myself. I use NEW CLEAN packing supplies AND sanitize every item using a long lasting anti-bacterial spray that will not damage the item. Thank you for taking interest in my item and pass the word should you know a collector!!
