Being offered is an interesting and unusual unknown old antique African sword with nice scabbard. This sword measures 21” in total length. The handle is wood with nice patina. It is ribbed in the grip section and has a wide guard at the base. The pommel is open with four sections carved with an opening that goes all the way through. There is a wood pommel capstan that has been broken on one side and is in rough condition. The scabbard is very nice ...and unusual. It is leather over wood with a side belt strap of very thick and hard leather. The leather is ribbed and has a number of holes that may have contained some type of attachment. There is a very nice rattan weave at the bottom of the scabbard. The leather section above that has faint decorations in black and some reddish tints. There is a wide rattan band at the very top. A very nice and unusual scabbard. The blade has a very dark patina and sports a high midrib and is double edged and shaped like a Roman gladius sword. The blade has sustained some damage towards the tip on one side. It looks like the sword struck something that broke the blade. It gives you a unique insight into the blade manufacture. There is a hole in the blade on the midrib towards the tip. Seems to have been intentionally put there. All in all, an interesting and unusual African sword even with the blade damage.
