Beginning in 1924, he combed the five boroughs, "capturing scenes of the city's people, buildings, and neighborhoods, " the society reports. "He created more than 30, 000 photographs, and his works comprise an amazingly detailed portrait of the city" from 1924 through the early 1940s.
