Very Rare and original, ca1875 Albumen Cabinet Card Photograph of a strikingly handsome Native American Ponca Indian Chief Ta-tonka-nuzhe (Standing Buffalo) by acclaimed Western Photographer William Henry Jackson.
This wonderful, period, Cabinet Card Photograph measures approx. 4 1/2” by 7 1/2” including its original card mount. The portrait is titled in the negative “4233. Standing Buffalo”. The image is signed in the negative by the photographer �...� W. H. Jackson & Co.
This captivating, full figure, standing portrait depicts the stoic Ponca Chief in a studio setting wearing a full eagle feather headdress, a stunningly beautiful, bead decorated War Shirt, a hair-pipe bone breastplate and beaded moccasins. He holds a catlinite pipe with beaded stem and a fantastic, bead decorated Tobacco Bag in his right hand.
This very rare and wonderful, Native American Ponca Indian, Cabinet Card Photograph is in excellent condition. The Photograph exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. The Photograph is clean and crisp and stunningly beautiful. The Image is mounted on a thin, blank backed card which may be a later mount - perhaps a museum or exhibit mount.
