The South Bend 227 is on most serious collectors' must-have list and this one is in excellent working order, with a dead flat and true balance wheel motion that has a fine, wide arc and strong, steady beat. The movement is a smooth wind, starts right up pn my 4th wind with no added effort, and lever sets as designed. The movement holds time well within 30 seconds per week face-up after careful and prolonged hand-regulating before dis-assembly! Appearance-wise this movement is looking great, with sparkling bright and clean 100% tarnish-free winding wheels, clean and correct modern "ball" regulator needle and index, spotless looking down inside, around the sides and in front, and ripping and running holding railroad time!!
