Up for auction is an Antique 1860's Civil War CDV Cabinet Card of 16 Ladies dressed in Union Army Styled Dresses. It measures slightly over 12" long and 10" wide. All 16 women are wearing a Union Officers Belt which is of the American Bald Eagle holding arrows in its left talon an olive branch in its right talon with a Laurel Leaf Wreath under it. There is a ribbon above the Eagle which has E PLURIBUS UNUM ("OUT OF MANY, ONE") written in it. Two of the ladies have decorative tassels ha...nging down with three ropes running across the front of their dresses. One of them has a star insignia on each shoulder patch, the other lady has a triangle on each shoulder patch. Three women have no shoulder patches, the other 11 ladies are wearing shoulder patches, though not all of them have the same insignia. Three of them are blank, four of them have a single bar and four ladies have two bars. It is the same type of insignias you see on the mens uniforms. Each lady has two stripes, one running down each side of their skirts. There is a throw rug on the floor in front of the ladies. George U. Ames LYNN, MASS is embossed on the bottom right hand corner of the board. 2929 is hand written in pencil on the back. This photograph is a great piece of history which shows how women were not content sitting at home. They joined the fight to bring an end to slavery as well as fought by their mens side. These women helped pave the way for future generations of women. They proved that women have the same desire and fire in their souls to fight for their country, their children, their men and their families. That they had what it took to walk equally along a mans side. The photograph is in good condition though it has some light scuff marks and is a little dirty. There is a small scratch on the left had side where the photo meats the board it is matted on. The board it is matted on is rough, it is missing two corner pieces and the top right corner is bent and beginning to tear off. There is a layer of a paper material stuck on the top part of the board. The photograph is being sold as is, please see pictures for further details and condition.
