An exquisite Original mid 19th C lady's bonnet, most likely a summer bridal cottage bonnet or a very important special day. Created in pleated ruffled ivory silk wrapped on a natural very narrow cane frame - inside is lined with typical stiff straw that keeps the bonnet's shape - the silk lining to cover the straw is loose but can easily be reattached . As you can see, it is delightfully decorated on left side w a beautiful floral bouquet that flows all the way ...back to the center of the neck; besides the lovely larger rose like flowers and matching smaller ones there are tiny thin wired stems of ivory and black tips, and tiny sprigs of green. And on the right side is a gorgeous very large matching to the chin ties silk ribbon Bow. The chin ties are created of matching ivory silk satin which is disintegrating. The back neck curtain is made of matching silk and piped edging along with being backed with matching ivory stiff tulle.This very rare to find bonnet is in extremely good presentable condition. No broken canes which is very rare to find, some very small silk holes, very minimal extremely faint yellowing on the back crown. Size of open front brim is 7.5" across / 10" high, depth from front to back is 9.5". Part of my personal collection this bonnet is one of the loveliest and most extravagantly created bonnets I have seen and have had the pleasure of owning in my 40 yrs of collecting; originally it came from another collector in the Washington DC area where the woman had purchased many politicians and wealthy estates of the area.
