Original Description:
Being offered is a very nice old antique African shield from the Massai tribe.  This old shield, most probably late 19th to early 20th century, has wonderful colors and patina.  The shield measures 29” tall by 19” wide.  The front of the shield has wonderful red, blue and white colors decorated in lines and triangle designs.  The outer shell of the shield is of wood with the interior being leather.  The entire outer band is wrapped in leather or thick ratta...n strips.  The reverse with a wood handle strapped onto the shield with leather strips.  A previous owner has written some type of history but it mentions this is a Zulu witchdoctors shield which is inaccurate.  Don’t know if this writing can be removed so I have left it since it doesn’t show when the shield is displayed.  A really fine shield overall.  Please e-mail with any questions.  Please view my other auctions for a great variety of swords, daggers and tribal art.
