Rare Carriage Clock L.Leroy & Cie Paris c.1870 Complex Striking, Repeating & Alarm
This auction is for a fine example of an antique French carriage/mantle clock by world famous maker L.Leroy & Cie of 13.15 Palais Royal, Paris. Louis took over the business in 1865 and they moved to Regent Street in 1875 - the clock therefore dates circa 1870.
The clock is in good working order. The gong-striking movement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour and repea...ts the last hour on pressing the top button.
It also has an alarm dial on the back-plate and separate winding stem for the alarm. Rare to have an alarm, self chime and repeating function on a clock.
All working well with a lovely loud, clear chime (see video link).
The movement carries the prestigious signature "L.Leroy & Cie, 13.15 Palais Royal, Paris" and is numbered 15263.
The white enamel dial is signed "L.Leroy & Cie, 13.15 Palais Royal, Paris" and has blue steel hands.
The movement number 15263 is repeated on the underside of the case. However, I believe the watch is housed in a very well made later, heavy, brass case. Please see the pictures.
Thick domes glass has a couple of surface marks.
The clock measures approx 22cm tall (to the top of the carry handle), 11cm wide and weighs approx 2.5kg.
Movement has been removed from the housing to photograph.
