1944 Vintage Photo by ACME VIA U.S. MARINE CORPS. These men are members of the local athletic and morale section of the United States Marine Corps, who supply recreational facilities for Uncle Sam's fighters at this Southwest Pacific Base in Guadalcanal. Left to right: Cpl. Ronald O. Usher, USMCR, of 5846 NE 29th Ave. Portland, Oregon; Sgt. Karl W. Lipke, of 1122 West Willetta Street, Phoenix, Arizona; Captain Roscoe Torrance, who is part owner and vice president of the Sea...ttle Washington Baseball Club; 1st Lt. Arthur Manush of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Team; and Captain Torrance's assistant, who lives at 801 Ash. Street, Burlington, Iowa; and Cpl. Richard Anders of 5106 Brae Burn Drive in Houston, Texas. In the background can be seen some of the sports equipment the Marines use.
