Victorianporcelain fairing cosmetic or perfume box, children with rabbit, late 19thc. Fairings, most of which were madein Germany, were sold to ordinary people at country fairs, many in England aswell as on the Continent. The major producer was the German firm Conte andBoehme. Some, especially those with a subsidiary use such as dresser boxes ormatch strikes, were sold in shops. This box probably held two bottles – ink, perfume, or rouge?
