Description: An early and important history of western New York, from the first Iroquois inhabitants to the Revolutionary War and War of 1812, and the construction of the Erie Canal. Illustrated with engraved portraits, scenes and maps. The Holland Land Company was an unincorporated syndicate of thirteen Dutch investors from Amsterdam who in 1792 and 1793 purchased a tract of 3, 250, 000 acres in western New York that lay west of the Genesee River. This area was afterward known as the Holland Purchase. Towns established within the bounds of the Holland Purchase include: Allegany * Wyoming * Genesee * Orleans * Cattaraugus * Erie * Niagara * Chautauque.
