Up for auction is a Very Rare, TRUE First Edition/First Printing of In the Shadow of Man by Jane Van Lawick-Goodall.
With photography by Hugo Van Lawick.

A TRUE First American Edition/First Printing/First State with AL...L First Edition Points present!
Please remember this is the First AMERICAN Edition.
This rare treasure has some clearly visible wear but is still in lovely, Highly Collectible condition!
The book appears gently read and other than some previous owner writing on the top edge pages and the front paste down/inside front board, has no internal writing, no foxing, no remainder marks, no missing or ripped pages and is NOT Ex-Libris or a BCE.
The binding is tight and the pages are still surprisingly crisp and clean!
Some general/shelf wear along with bumping/creases/wear to the spine/corners/cloth boards and wear to the edge/fore pages, NOT affecting the text!
As mentioned before, there is some internal writing and some writing on the top edge pages!
The internal writing, written in pen, is located near the top edge of the front paste down/inside front board.
The writing on the top edge pages appears to have been written in marker/sharpie.
There also appears to be a stamp on the top edge pages which has numerous line/marks covering it.
The internal writing/previous owner writing and especially the writing/marks on the top edge pages are both VERY clearly visible and have been closely photographed for your consideration.
The unfortunate wear/writing/marks should be carefully examined/considered BEFORE buying.
The original, First State dust jacket is fully intact and NOT price-clipped!
Some general/shelf wear along with creases, chipping and numerous rips/tears.
There are also some pieces of tape present on the inside of the dust jacket!
Please note the wear on the spine, at the corners, near the bottom edge of the front of the jacket and near/along the edges!
The wear is extensive and VERY clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered BEFORE buying.
