Many of these pieces were originally intended for children of Orleans which the Countess of Genlis taught. The roles/parts are held by children. Madame de Genlis, inaugurating a new genre in the theater, a theater by and for children.
In the final volume, the preface states that this book is only for children of artisans and merchants. It goes without saying that the parts are not without a certain moral action
