The 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition was set in San Francisco after the devastating 1906 earthquake. The Exposition was a showcase of architecture and art, which Neuhaus was the chair of committee to jury the fine arts of the Exposition and was invited to exhibit some of his work.
"Karl Eugen Neuhaus was born in Germany in 1879 where he studied at the Royal Art Institutes in Kassel and Berlin. Neuhas immigrated to San Francisco in 1904 where he opened a studio near William Keith. When the 1906 earthquake destroyed his studio and home, Neuhaus moved to the Monterey area and helped found the Del Monte Art Gallery. Neuhaus greatest impact on California art was as a lecturer, author and teacher. Neuhaus taught at the University of California, Berkeley for over 40 years and was that schools first head of their art department."
