Wanderings In Roman Britain By Arthur Weigall - 2nd Impression Hardback 1926
Item History & Price
Arthur Edward Pearse Brome Weigall (1880-1934) was an English Egyptologist, stage designer, journalist and author. He published many works, ranging from histories of Ancient Egypt and historical biographies to guide-books and popular novels.
His aim in this book is to teach the history of a great epoch in the ancestral chronicles of Britain by taking the reader around the sites where the remains of that age are to be s...een, and thus to localise and to make visible to the eye of the imagination of the reader the events of that period.
Published by Thornton Butterworth in October 1926, second impression (the first impression was in the same month). The book is bound in the original dark blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and blind stamped titling on the front board. It measures approx. 7 1/2" x 5" with 341 pages, a map on the endpapers, a frontispiece showing 2 illustrations, 15 other illustrations on 11 plates and many blacka and white illustrations within the text.
The case of the book is in good to very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The spine ends are bumped with a small bit of damage to the cloth at the top of the spine and a thin split in the cloth on the top 1/2" of the rear spine edge. The spine is slightly faded and there is also some fading on the spine and top edges of the front board.
The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing on the first and last few pages, including some marks on the title page. There is no inscription.
