1900 Edison Home Phonograph W/Original Brass Horn, Sidearm C Reproducer, More
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:29704701 | Model: Home Phonograph |
Brand: Edison |
Here's an early Edison "Suitcase" Home cylinder phonograph with a sidearm "C" reproducer and an original 14" all-brass horn.
Japanned finish on the casting is in good condition overall, with wear evident at the corners. The gold decorations are likewise in good condition overall, with worn areas (primarily on the bedplate). Edison signature is still crisp and legible. The motor is in excellent condition, with ample torque. The governor assembly is working properly. The sidearm "C" reproducer has a good stylus and an undamaged diaphragm. It is the correct reproducer for the phonograph's upgraded long case style carriage.
The phonograph runs well, especially for an early Home.
The cabinet is in excellent condition (both lid and base) and the cabinet's finish is original, and as you can see in the photographs. The cabinet decal is an older replacement, but it's literally identical to the original, and if I didn't tell you that it was a replacement, you would almost certainly never know.
The 14" brass horn is original and it's in excellent condition..
I'll include an early brown wax cylinder so it will be ready to play and enjoy as soon as it arrives.
I've been selling and shipping antique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
When you've finished checking out my ebay listings this week, take a look at my TechnoGallerie website, where you can buy hard-to-find antique phonographs, antique radios, antique cameras and other gadgets you're not likely to see anywhere else. New arrivals include an exceptionally nice 1905 Victor D phonograph with an original Victor spear tip horn and an uncommon 1921 Hatfield Senior interpanel radio made in Indianapolis, Indiana. Just type TechnoGallerie in the address line of your web browser and hit the enter key. TechnoGallerie has a newsletter, too, and if you take a second to sign up for it, you'll receive an email update whenever I list something new on the site -- typically once a week.
If you're bidding from overseas, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote. The phonograph is large and heavy, and it cannot be shipped to some countries. Therefore, I will need to confirm my ability to ship it to you before you place a bid. Auction participants with no prior feedback should contact me before placing a bid.
That's about it. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
