Here's a McIntosh MR-66 Stereo Tuner, a tuner whose name is somewhat deceptive. While the tuner does indeed tune stereo FM radio broadcasts, it does not play them back in stereo without an accessory MA6 stereo decoder (not included). The tuner comes from a private audio engineering museum in western North Carolina, and it's one of dozens of vintage audio items from the museum that I'll be listing over the next few months. I'm offering these pieces "as found." Most of them work, but some don't. In all cases, I'll try to provide an accurate assessment of electrical condition and suitability for use based on limited testing. I don't have the time, energy or skill to repair the pieces that aren't working, so please read the descriptions carefully to make sure you get what you're expecting.
Cosmetic condition of this tuner is good overall, and it tunes both local and distant FM stations clearly with just a short, inexpensive 300 ohm dipole antenna. The sound quality of FM broadcasts is excellent -- warm and opulent without sounding "tubey." Excellent sensitivity and excellent selectivity too. The mute function works like it should; it limits noise and interference, but it's not overly aggressive.
AM reception is poor. Even with a high quality outdoor antenna, AM reception is no better than what you'd get from a conventional car radio.
Meters and meter lights are working fine, and meter sensitivity can be adjusted with controls inside the end caps.
Dial lights are out.
Please look at the pictures. They should speak for themselves.
When you've finished checking out my ebay listings this week, take a look at my TechnoGallerie website, where you can buy hard-to-find antique phonographs, antique radios, antique cameras and other gadgets you're not likely to see anywhere else. New arrivals include a near mint, all-original, 1912 Victor Junior phonograph and a rare 1919 Grebe RORH vacuum tube radio detector. Just type TechnoGallerie in the address line of your web browser and hit the enter key. TechnoGallerie has a newsletter, too, and if you take a second to sign up for it, you'll receive an email update whenever I list something new on the site -- typically once a week.
That's about it. I will package the amp properly so that it arrives at your doorstep safely. I've been shipping fragile electrical antiques for years, and if you check my feedback, you'll see that I know how to do it correctly.
