This is one of the great turntables from the mid to late 70's when Technics was building some really fine gear! The construction is first rate with a cast aluminum base, high torque direct drive motor, and a very nice "S" shape arm set in Technic's classic 4 point suspension. Ultimately this proves to be very much in the tradition of the highly acclaimed original SL1200 both in terms of looks and performance! Unlike the fully manual SL1200, this is a fully automatic single play table w...ith an auto repeat capability. It is in perfect condition operationally and looks reasonably good too. As the pictures will show, this has some minor scuffs and such around the controls and the dust cover shows the usual minor scratches that they all seem to acquire over time. Still, this does make a nice accounting of itself cosmetically.
Although this table was ideally suited to DJ work because of its rugged build and great performance,
I am happy to say that this one has led a quiet domestic life without any of the abuse that a DJ's table would have to take!
The SL1300 is a servo locked direct drive table with a high torque motor and rather massive dynamically
balanced platter. There is a strobe indicator and independent pitch adjustments. This excellent drive
system is matched with a great arm! Technics uses a true 4 point suspension with very precise bearings that have virtually unmeasurable friction while also having no looseness either! The arm is an S shape which sets up an effective mass that suits it well to many of the medium compliance cartridges available today. I can say that it does sound great with the classic Audio Technica cartridge that's currently mounted. The combination is indeed a winning one, showing off the virtues of vinyl with every play.
This was considered among the best Technics made when they were current and still continue to be sought out today! Finally, the base of this table does deserve mention as it is a true standout in this age of mass plastic merchandise. Like the SL1200, this is constructed from cast aluminum and is very rigid and strong. This table is really solid and proves to be a perfect example of classic Technics style and performance!
