ORIGINAL UNION VETERAN GAR SWORD WITH SCABBARD AND PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION. This sword is in nice condition. The blade is 30 inches long and the sword overall is 35 1/4 inches from blade tip to pommel cap. It is maker marked "Oak Hall Clothing Co. Boston Mass." The patriotic pattern etching is in good condition and clearly seen. The last third of the blade has some spotting which does not affect the integrity of the etched panels. The handle has it's original leather and wire wrapping... and is tight to the guard and blade. The double edge blade is not sharpened to a cutting edge. The throat of the scabbard is engraved "Presented to C.(?) H (?) Wing by his Friends." The scabbard is in good shape with no dents or breaks and the drag is in place. Please study the engraving for the correct name as the old script is sometimes difficult to read. If is is C. H. Wing, there is a Charles H. Wing in the 19th Regiment of the U.S. Colored Troops. There was also a Charles Wing in the Vermont Heavy Artillery. This inscription should be further researched. Thanks for looking.
