I have a 1.6GHz 7457 G4 upgrade CPU with 2MB of DDR L3 cache for sale. This processor was originally a 933MHz 7450 out of an Apple Quicksilver Power Mac, part number 820-1344. It has been modified with the installation of a much newer 7457 Motorola/Freescale PowerPC CPU and fast DDR cache chips BGA soldered to the PCB. The 7457 is a later version of the G4 CPU that has 512kB of L2 cache like the 7447 chips, but also has L3 cache. This makes it significantl...y faster with some applications, like Photoshop. This is one of the best CPUs you can get for these computers which makes it similar to other aftermarket upgrades offered by Sonnet, Giga Designs, OWC, Powerlogix, Newer Technology, Fastmac, etc.
This card directly fits the 133MHz bus computers like the Quicksilver and Digital Audio and will run at 1.6GHz. It uses less power than the older chips and should install with an original heatsink and fan, making this a simple upgrade. For the Digital Audio, it needs a 12v wire added; I can supply it with this modification. I also have an option for a heatpipe heatsink (contact me for details or see my other listings).
With some work, this CPU can also be installed in a Gigabit/Graphite/AGP tower with a 100MHz bus where it would also run at 1.6GHz, but with a different bus multiplier. This is possible with some modification to the IDE connector that sits below the CPU board. I can adjust the CPU speed jumpers for either 100MHz or 133MHz bus--please let me know how you want it configured. It will not easily fit a Cube and will not fit a MDD. Whichever heatsink used, a small fan should be added to keep temperatures down.
I also have a 1.6GHz 7455 CPU, so I thought it would be interesting to do some back-to-back tests. Both CPUs were tested on 100 and 133MHz computers with the L3 cache enabled and disabled. You can see the results. A 7457 with the L3 disabled would be the same as the more common 7447. The other plot shows the memory bandwidth, and you can see the speed contributions of L2 and L3 cache.
I'm a private seller, not an ebay business. I can provide some advice on installing this but I'm selling it AS IS with no returns or refunds. However, it is currently running perfectly in my computer and upon request I can run tests or programs to demonstrate its function. It requires a firmware update BEFORE installation. I use the Newer Technology patch for 7448/7447/7457 chips, which is available online or I can send it to you.
The CPU card is what will be shipped. You will need to re-use or add a heatsink, fan, thermal paste, etc. The CPU will be carefully pulled, packaged, and mailed by USPS to the USA.
