Rare Antique 19thC Soft Paste Blue Staffordshire Coffee Cann Transferware Mug NR
Item History & Price
Antique 19th Century Soft Paste Staffordshire Mug If you like your Staffordshire with a seriously antiqued patina, this mug's for you!
This wonderful early-to-mid 1800's Staffordshire "coffee cann" or breakfast mug measures 3-3/8" high by 3-5/8" across the rim with a straight-sided (coffee can) profile.
The blue transferware pastoral scene features figures by a lake with goats grazing nearby and a small house among the pines. Across the ...water on many high ridges are multiple Tyrolean style buildings.
The inside of the mug has a deep band of floral patterning.
The scrolled handle has a vine of flowers and leaves.
The age darkening is amazingly consistent both inside and out.
There is a single tight hairline which barely catches a nail and is somewhat lighter than the surrounding patina.
Except for a small blue crescent-and-dot, the base of the mug is unmarked.
Aside from the line, the mug is in exceptionally fine antique condition, retaining a high gloss and having no other chips or other damage.
