This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This wire features a John Stubbe patent, dated October 23, 1888. This wire is called "Stubbe's Galvanized Large Notched Corners Metal Plate Barbs " by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 744-B VARIATION).(Hagemeier No. does not show galvanized and non galvanized variations). This wire features two twisted together round line wires.&nbs...p; Barbs are made from sheet metal plates. Barbs are notched diagonally at each corner, and each pair of points bent towards each other. Line wires are placed between these corner openings. Line wires and plates are all galvanized. Plates retain good galvanizing; wires retain traces of galvanizing. These plates served as barbs, and as a warning plate to make the wire more visible. Plates measure 1-1/2" x 1-5/8". Wire sample is at least 18" in length. It shows light age and use wear with very light pitting. There are two barbing plates, well spaced, and cut is well centered. There is some bending of points, but no broken or missing points. Wire is in good used condition. This sample of antique barbed wire is absolutely old and authentic and sells with no reserve.
