This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This wire features a John Stubbe patent, dated October 23, 1888. This wire is called "Stubbe's Large Notched Corners Metal Plate with Side by Side Plates" by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 744-B & ABWS Unique Wires #116). (This sample would be a factory irregular). This wire features two twisted together line wires. ...Barbs are made from sheet metal plates. Barbs are notched diagonally at each corner, and each pair of points bent towards each other. Line wires are placed between these corner openings. Plates are smooth on both sides. These plates served as barbs, and as a warning plate to make the wire more visible. These plates are set "Side by Side" with one twist of line wires separating them. Plates measure 1-1/2" x 1-5/8". Wire sample is 18-1/4" in length. It shows some age and use wear with light pitting. There are two barbing plates, and cut is well centered. There are no broken or missing points. Wire is in very good used condition. This sample of antique barbed wire is absolutely old and authentic and sells with no reserve. Shipping will be $4.50, within the United States.
