Original fine binding in light-brown quarter leather and tan marbled boards with ornate gilt d...ecoration on the spine with five raised bands and dark-brown leather title label with gilt lettering: "LA VIE DE NOSTRADAMUS." Red marbled endpapers. Red topstain. 179 text pages, preceded by a two-page "Avertissement" and followed by a one-page "Approbation." Also, one blank flyleaf in front and two blank flyleaves in rear. Measures 7.5" x 4.5".
First edition containing Nostradamus' bibliographic manual of psychic and occult sciences and several anecdotes and legends relating to Nostradamus not included in previous biographies. Text according to recent sources, from an hitherto unpublished manuscript from the possession of the biographers: grandnephews of Nostradamus.
In VERY GOOD + condition.
Three corners rubbed and worn and light wear to the edges of the boards. Otherwise nearly Fine, with almost no wear to the leather spine and no surface wear to the marbled boards. Tightly bound with firm hinges and joints. Excellent interior with bright, clean pages with no tears, creases or stains. Small previous owner's antique bookplate with stylized initials on front pastedown and previous owner's fairly lengthy and very neatly written notation in fountain pen in French at top of rear flyleaf.
