5VintageSterling Silver Collectors Thimbles
Early-Late20th Century Thisnice group ofcollector's thimbles have a variety of styles. I'm going to describethem from left to right. The fist thimble is Portuguese and stamped"925" (sterling silver). It also has the English sterling hallmarks foran imported item for Birmingham 1977. It's in mint condition, gildedinside and about an American size 9. The next thimble is American bySimons Bros and marked Sterling... silver. It has an engine turned bandedband and a monogram (DHF). It's a size 11 and in outstanding condition.It's on p. 24 of Gay Ann Rogers' book American Silver Thimbles.The next thimble is from Germany and has a glass top. It's stamped"800" for 800/1000 pure silver. It's a size 10 and the silver is ingreat condition. The glass top has a crack.
The forth thimbleis American with no maker's mark. It's marked "Sterling" and has thesize (9) on the band. It's in excellent condition. The last thimble hasthe maker's mark for Ketcham & McDougall and "Sterling" stampedinthe top. It has a fluted paneled band and is a size 9 (p. 71 Gay Ann'sbook). There are a couple of small splits at the rim, but you can onlysee them from the inside. None have any holes or repairs and they weigh23 grams (collectively).
