Rare Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Blanket - In Bag, With Certificate

Here’s another interesting item from the estate of my friend Spike MacPhee (owner of Cambridge’s Science Fantasy Bookstore from 1977-1989), who passed away late last year. Spike was an avid fan and collector of original science fiction and fantasy art (as well as books, fanzines and other science fiction and fantasy ephemera). Among the things he loved was Star Trek, and in his collection he had several unusual Star Trek items.
This is one of those. It’s a rare blanket w...ith a printed Starfleet logo on it. Per the certificate that comes with it from Nicholas Meyer, director of “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country”, he was inspired to have this produced by a sickbay scene on the Starship Enterprise between Spock and Valeris in which a standard issue Starfleet blanket is shown.
This was done in a numbered edition of 500, with an unknown number of unnumbered ones. This one is unnumbered. It comes in its original plastic carrying case, with certificate (I don’t know if these certificates were personally signed by Meyer or if the signature is just a copy), and until I took it out to photograph it, appears to have been unopened previously. The blanket measures 70" x 60", and the blue image is silk-screened onto a tan/beige blanket. The care instructions are dated 1993.
