Cypraea Tigris Schilderiana #1) 114.7mm, Cate 1961 SUPER CHOICE XXL SPECIMEN from Hawaii. Hawaii is an unusual place when it comes to shell collecting... There are few shells on the beach, so you have to go snorkeling or diving for them. Yet, shell collecting in Hawaii is so fickle, you can go snorkeling until you're exhausted without finding a thing, or, you can find yourself just drifting along and then WHAM! There's a rare she...ll just waiting for you to pick it up! I looked and looked for a tiger cowrie, but that's the next weird thing about collecting in Hawaii, if you're looking in the wrong spot, you can look for years and years without finding a thing... And then one day, I was tide-pooling at a spot we liked to go to at Kapolei, Oahu, and there, five feet away from the shore in twelve inches of water was the first and only tiger cowrie that I ever found (after fifty years of looking.) That's shell collecting in Hawaii. This shell was found only a hop, skip and a jump from where I found my tiger, half a mile away at Ko Olina, under a coral head in twenty-five feet of water, and as the photos show, this shell is a beauty, (and big, check out the comparison photo, that's a 99mm tiger cowrie sitting next to this one, a big tiger in its own right, yet the one I'm selling here makes the 99mm shell look small, and it isn't!) This shell is fantastic, but it has a couple of insignificant partially-repaired injuries (see last photo) and slight blemishes on the crown's gloss that you'd only notice if you looked real hard for them. The surf can get pretty big at Ko Olina during the winter, so scratches are not uncommon on shells collected there. Anyhow, this a great shell, and adding a very big "Hawaiian Tiger Cowrie" to your collection is a great way to improve anyone's day.A great addition to a first-rate collection...

As for normal disclaimers and such... I have tried my best to make sure the photos are accurate color-wise, but as everyone knows, color is a... well, it's tough. Between my phone changing the color due to the color of the shell, the background, the lighting AND it changing when I post it on eBay, and then knowing that your phone or laptop is going to do weird things to it color-wise too, well, let's just say, I tried my best, and I hope you will think so too when you hold your new beauty in your hands for the first time.Second, like everyone else selling on eBay, I live and die by the feedback you leave, (please leave me fives!) so, with that in mind, please remember that I am anxiously sitting by my phone in case someone needs me to help them with something.
