Cypraea tigris schilderiana: RARE HAWAIIAN GIANT TIGER! |
GIANT VIOLET HAWAIIAN!! Cypraea Tigris Schilderiana #5, 115.3mm, Cate 1961. Incredible beauty from Waianae, Hawaii.
Hawaii is an unusual place when it comes to shell collecting... There are few shells on the beach, so you have to go snorkeling or diving for them. Y...et, shell collecting in Hawaii is so fickle, you can go snorkeling until you're exhausted without finding a thing, or, you can find yourself just drifting along and then WHAM! There's a rare shell just waiting for you to pick it up! I looked and looked for a tiger cowrie, but that's the next weird thing about collecting in Hawaii, if you're looking in the wrong spot, you can look for years and years without finding a thing... And then one day, I was tide-pooling at a spot we liked to go to at Kapolei, Oahu, only a hop, skip and jump from where this beauty was found, and there, five feet away from the shore in twelve inches of water was the first and only tiger cowrie that I ever found (after fifty years of looking.) That's shell collecting in Hawaii. This near-Gem violet beauty was found on the West Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, along a ledge in forty-five feet of water. It has minor imperfections on the dorsum and siphon canal that you can see if you really look for them, otherwise as the photos barely show, it's big, it's background is violet/lavender, and quite honestly, it is one of the most beautiful Hawaiian tigers I have ever seen, which makes it an incredible giant, violet Hawaiian that will look fantastic sitting on your shelf! The perfect shell for a first-rate collection...
And yes, we give combined shipping, (just ask, but even if you don't, rest assured, we will refund any extra shipping charges as soon as we receive your order.)
As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on eBay show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest! As for feedback, as your know, sellers live and die by the feedback you leaved, (please leave fives!) so if you have a problem, just let me know! After all, I'm retired, and all messages go directly to my phone, so unless I'm out shell collecting I will get back to you pronto-like!Shell collecting! Now there's a phrase that brings smiles to your eyes, doesn't it!Anyhow, if you have read this far, you have my apologies and best wishes from those of us at IslandShells323. And don't forget, Home is where your collection is!
