Information:
Reference Number: Avaluer:31672459Country/Region of Manufacture: China
Original Description:
I'm pleased to offer this specimen of Scheelite with Quartz and minor Muscovite from the Yaogangxian mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China. The specimen measures 1.73 x 1.51 x .69 inches or 4.39 x 3.83 x 1.76cm and is in very good condition. The scheelite crystals aren't perfect as there are some very tiny chips here and there on some edges but I've yet to see a perfect specimen from this mine.
This piece shows very sharp butterscotch crystals on a flattish quartz plat...e. Tiny rosettes of muscovite crystals are present and there seems to be some dark metallic inclusion associated with the quartz---there is a lot of ferberite at the Yaogangxian so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the culprit. Too small for me to identify even under the scope.

About 15-18 years ago, Top Gem Minerals, Inc. of Tucson started bringing in Yaogangxian mine pieces by the thousands and, on more than one occasion, I happened to be the first buyer in the warehouse to see the specimens. I bought literally hundreds and hundreds of assorted Yaogangxian mine pieces---it was absolutely crazy. The Chinese dealer or miners that sold the specimens to them seemed to have no idea what they had---wonderful bournonite crystals and scores of scheelite specimens were among the very many pieces from which I selected. It wasn't long before they educated themselves and prices for specimens quickly escalated to the point where Top Gem no longer visited China to buy specimens as they were too expensive. I miss those early days!
The Yaogangxian mine has become a modern day classic locality and has produced some of the world's finest arsenopyrite, bournonite, ferberite and stannite specimens and excellent specimens of calcite, cassiterite, fluorite, quartz and scheelite, among others. I sold a specimen to a museum that had seven different minerals on a large quartz plate that included two Japan-law twins. The mine is simply unbelievable in terms of the numbers and quality of specimens it has produced.

I have but a few Yaogangxian mine specimens remaining. I was thrilled several years ago to get many back from a collection that I purchased in California from a collector that purchased hundreds of specimens from me on and off eBay. Those sold quickly and I'm always looking for more! This is a very aesthetic piece in very good condition---the scheelites show great relief off the quartz and are very sharp. Of course, they fluoresce a brilliant blue-white color under shortwave UV light.
Please check my feedback and my other eBay items. All specimens are carefully wrapped, come with complete and accurate labels and are quickly shipped. As always, your complete satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed and I even offer FREE return shipping on any item that fails to satisfy for any reason---you can't go wrong. I'm reminded of the firm pledge printed on the old Foote Mineral Company mineral catalogs from more than a century ago,

"Quality of specimens is assured as we permit return of specimens at our expense."

  Thanks for looking!
I buy collections! Please contact me if you have a collection for sale or know of one that is available. I will pay a finder's fee to anyone that can point me to an eventual purchase!
