Civil War Era CDV Woman In Hoop Skirt Faux Wood Paneling R6 Tax Stamp

This Civil War era cdv is of a lovely young seated woman . he large hoop skirt completely covers her chair or stool. She's photographed in front of what looks like a corner of a room with elaborate floor to ceiling paneling, but is likely a canvas drape made to look like it. There is no studio name given. There is a tax stamp on the back, which dates the image from 1864 to1866. Photographers had to pay tax on each photo from this period to help pay for the War. There was no stamp... specific to photographs, so several different stamps were used on photos. This one is for 2 cents - a Scott R6 with "bank check" printed on the bottom. Photos costing 25 cents or less were accessed 2 cents. These stamps are usually cancelled by a stamp or by hand, but this one was not cancelled at all. The image is sharp and clear but one corner has wear.
