Original Description:
Here is a really interesting guaranteed vintage pair ofheavy metal (bronze?) bookends that I just came across in a local estate.  The image and verbiage inside the ship’swheel shaped design is of “Old Ironsides” along with various dates of itslaunch, etc.  Then, on the base of thebookends it says “THIS MATERIAL WAS TAKEN FROM U.S. FRIGATE CONSTITUTION1927”.  Here’s what I found on theinternet regarding the reconstruction of the ship and how these bookends rel...ateto it:  “Programs presented toschoolchildren about "Old Ironsides" encouraged them to donatepennies towards her restoration, eventually raising $148, 000. In the meantime, the estimates for repair began to climb, eventually reaching over $745, 000after costs of materials were realized... The final campaign allowedmemorabilia to be made of her discarded planking and metal. Among the itemssold were ashtrays, bookends and picture frames..."   How cool is that – this metal actually camefrom the original 1812 ship!  Eachbookend measures about 6.5 inches tall and other than typical patina anddiscoloration, they are in nice vintage used condition and I have NOT cleanedor polished them.    All photos are of the actual item(s) I'm selling (except for stock photos shown from eBay's catalog that may appear in some sales).IF YOU LIVE IN KANSAS, PLEASE DO NOT PAY UNTIL I SEND YOU AN INVOICE (I have to collect sales tax). If you don't live in Kansas, you can go ahead and pay or wait for my invoice, whichever you want. In most cases I will send you an invoice within an hour of the time the sale ends. By bidding on this sale you agree to the following terms and conditions:SHIPPING IN GENERAL (Domestic and International): I will send you an invoice via the eBay check-out system. You are responsible for all shipping charges (see the "Shipping Calculator").  DOMESTIC SHIPPING: For shipments within the US I will probably get you a quote for Priority Mail and Parcel Select (and/or First Class or Media Mail if applicable), but let me know if you prefer some other type of shipping and I will do my best. LOCAL PICKUP in Topeka, KS, is always available free at no extra cost.INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: On international orders I will probably quote First Class Mail and/or Priority Mail (keeping in mind First Class cannot be used if the weight is over 4 pounds or it exceeds certain size limits). Because of eBay's changes telling sellers they have to take PayPal, on International orders I also ALWAYS reserve the right to REQUIRE an item to be sent by Priority Mail so that I can purchase indemnity to cover myself on higher ticket items (that is because you can't insure International First Class and of course PayPal won't confirm international accounts). HANDLING CHARGES: The cost of mailing materials keeps going up, and I package things well (see my feedback). So, to cover some of these every-increasing costs, and as eBay allows in its rules, I must now include an additional 50-cents "handling charge" on most sales to defray my expenses. PAYMENT and KANSAS SALES TAX: Per eBay's policy, in my ad I can only ask for payment via PayPal (I have no way to accept credit cards directly). On sales to Kansas residents I will have to collect applicable sales tax. CUSTOMS DECLARATION, DUTIES, TARIFFS, ETC.: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up, so do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.RETURNS: Everything I sell is purchased at estate sales, auctions, and other sales, and I am NOT an expert on anything that I sell. So, EVERYTHING is sold AS IS. In some cases I will consider accepting return of an item, but that is in my discretion (but as you can see by my feedback, I have always been fair to everyone I deal with, so please bid with confidence). MISC: I DON'T END AUCTIONS EARLY, and if I didn't list it as a "Buy It Now" item then I don't intend to offer it that way, so there is no reason to ask. If eBay has some sort of problem during this sale, I reserve the right to cancel the sale and re-list the item. If there are props or such in the photo, they are not included in the sale (rulers, display shelves, coins to show size, mannequin heads, etc.). I leave feedback AFTER the buyer leaves feedback. Last of all, this is a second job for me, and I have a job during the day, as well as a family, so I will get back to you as quickly as I can. So, it is a good idea to not wait until the last minute to contact me with questions. THANK YOU! Pay me securely with any major credit card through PayPal!
