Antique M. Salzman Co., Purity Above All, New YorkStoneware Advertising Whiskey Jug 2 GallonAged between 1906-1920.Up for sale is this early scarce 20th century M.Salzman Co. 2 gallon, glazed, cream and brown ceramic whisky jug with a handle. The M. Salzman Co. is painted on to the clay in cobalt blue, below it is their famous slogan " PURITY ABOVE ALL". At the turn of the 20th Century, Salzman teamed with another New Yorker to form their own wholesale and ret...ail liquor operation in Brooklyn, located at 417 6th Avenue. Salzman & Siegelman became known for issuing their whiskey and wines in ceramic jugs. After several years in business, for reasons unknown, Siegelman left the partnership and setup his own business. Shortly thereafter Salzman himself created a new enterprise called M. Salzman & Co. It was located in Brooklyn at 248 Third Avenue until Prohibition.Most jugs out there are normally 1 gallon or less, making this 2-gallon jug rare and sought after.The jug is in great condition with for its age with NO cracks or repairs. The brown handle and spout are in excellent condition and the glaze is shinny and clear.There are two small nicks close together on the upper edge of the cream color rim. There are a couple of spots on the cream body that display some crazing, which is common for a jug of this age. These is a small 1 inch x 1/2 inch rust stain on side. (Please see photos.)The jug measures approximately 13 inches tall by 9 inches in diameter.I do not charge for packaging and handling costs. With packaging, this piece will weigh nearly 13lbs., accounting for the shipping cost.Item is "as found, as shown" condition.
