M1860 US Naval Cutlass, Stamped 1862 on Blade, the year it was commissioned. Serial No. 8M184, which actually means 8, 184.The "M" means 1, 000th. This is a very low serial number. Only 25, 000 U.S.N. Cutlass's were made to order by the Navy as opposed to the Light Cavalry version in the 100's of Thousands. ...It would have been issued with an All-Leather Scabbard and the Belt attachment "frog". Both are missing and presumed deteriorated, rotted, or lost, as the Cutlass is over 157 years old.
